The Zagreb Zoo is one of the 3 zoological gardens in Croatia. It is located on a surface of 7 hectares, and is located in the southern part of the Maksimir Park. The Zagreb zoo-garden is a member of the following international organizations, acknowledging its quality:EAZA – European Association of Zoos and Aquaria, WAZA – World Association of Zoos and Aquariums, IZE – International Zoo Educators Association and ISIS – International Species Information System
The zoo has a large number of outdoor establishments, but also small themed tropical houses and several pavilions. The renovation of an obsolete zoo was started in 1990 and up to the present day most of the houses have either been restored or newly built.
